The Department of Education (DepEd) will look into the veracity of a video showing a female “teacher” lashing at her presumed students via TikTok Live.
“We are verifying the report from the field,” DepEd Deputy Spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Francis Bringas told reporters in a Viber message on Saturday, March 16.
Bringas was referring to a video showing a female “teacher” getting angry with her students. The said outburst was live-streamed by the alleged teacher via TikTok.
“[This] will require a complete incident report to determine the next course of action in accordance with existing DepEd policies,” Bringas explained, noting that updates and additional information will be released “as soon as available.”
What did the ‘teacher’ say?
The viral video, which is currently making rounds on Facebook and X, shows an upset “teacher” lecturing her students.
The two-minute and 11-second video shows a “teacher” inside a classroom calling out her students for their “bad” behavior.
The visibly upset “teacher” used very harsh words such as “ugaling iskwater (having squatter mentality),” “ingrato (a Spanish term for ungrateful)”, “walang mararating sa buhay (will not go far in life),” and “wala kayong lugar sa mundo (you have no place in the world)” --- among others.
“Nakakalimutan nyo yung ano nyo ha, yung boundaries nyo, nakakalimutan nyo yung boundaries nyo (You're forgetting your boundaries),” the “teacher” started off saying.
She continued by saying that teachers are not being paid just to become “robots” and to be ridiculed in front of the class.
The alleged teacher also boasted that she did not pass the Board Exams (presumably for teachers) just to be disrespected by students who have yet to prove anything in their lives.
“Ang kakapal ng mga mukha nyo! (You have thick faces!),” the “teacher” said, noting how shameless her students were for disrespecting her even if they “cannot even feed themselves.”
“Hindi na nga kayo matalino eh, ang sama pa ng ugali nyo. Wala kayong mararating (You're not even intelligent, and your attitude is bad. You won't get anywhere),” she added.
After her outburst, the “teacher” is seen rolling her eyes before turning off her livestream.
Netizens react
The said video, uploaded on Facebook has 52,000 reactions, 7,000 comments, and 29.4K shares as of this writing.
On X, users have also started calling out the alleged teacher and urged the DepEd to act on the matter.
X user with handle @roooowwwwssss said: “Maam, dapat mahaba ang pasensya mo dahil teacher ka. Oo, talagang magagalit at maiinis ka rin pero dapat di mo idadaan sa tiktok. Bawal ang ginawa mo. Ano kayang masasabi ng DepEd dito.”
Another X user with the handle @AlwaysSmile8891, meanwhile called out the Education department: “Is this how @DepEd_PH mandates teachers to handle difficult students? I'm shocked by the words used and the discouragement conveyed. Also, why is she on TikTok? It seems like an abuse of power. This behavior is unacceptable for a teacher.”
As per DepEd, there are existing policies on social media use by teachers during classes as stated in DepEd Order No. 49, s. 2022 or “Promotion of Professionalism in the Implementation and Delivery of Basic Education Programs and Services.”
In 2021, a male teacher also went viral for a TikTok video insinuating a potential child abuse action.
