House Assistant Majority Leader Ako-Bicol Party-list Rep. Jil Bongalon believes that there is "enough ground" to file a disbarment case against former Biliran lone district Rep. Glenn Chong.

Bongalon had this to say in a press conference Wednesday, March 20 as he commented on the controversial remarks that Chong made about First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos last week.

It was during the pro-Apollo Quiboloy prayer rally in Manila last March 12 when Chong, a lawyer,  publicly threatened to slap in the face President Marcos' wife.

"It pains me no, because the one who made this statement publicly is a lawyer...it reflects to the legal profession," said Bongalon, also a lawyer.

"Mayroon pong mga panawagan na imbestigahan at fle-an ng kaso for possible disbarment case (There is a call for an investigation and to file a case for possible disbarment). For me personally, there is enough ground," he said.

"Because as a lawyer, in a legal profession, we have this Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability, or CPRA," Bongalon said.

"It states basically that we have duties not just to our clients, not just to the courts, but to the society in general," he explained.

Bongalon said that Chong's threat of bodily harm doesn't only reflect against the First Lady, but against all Filipino women.

As such, he said he would support such case against Chong in order to "uphold the integrity of the legal profession".
