BuCor retains 42 out of 275 employees set for dismissal for lack of qualifications
For their long years of service, at least 42 out of 275 employees set for dismissal on Saturday, March 16, for failure to comply with eligibility requirements will be retained by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
In a statement, BuCor said those who will be retained included a corrections senior inspector, four corrections inspector, four corrections senior officer (CSO2), two CSO3, 19 CSO2, seven CSO1, one corrections technical officer (CTO3), two CTO2, and two CTO1.
It said “the CSC (Civil Service Commission) considered the long work experience of the said personnel” and that it was found that “two have complied with the requirements.”
"Those who will be removed from the service starting tomorrow, March 16, are 137 personnel who have completed their bachelor’s degree but with no civil service eligibility, four with no bachelor’s degree but with eligibility, and 91 with no bachelor’s degree and no eligibility,” it also said.
One of those who were set for attrition was found to have retired from the service, it added.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said that family members of those whose services will be terminated would be allowed to apply for employment.
“The bureau continues to open its doors for new applicants who intend to work with the BuCor following the attrition and relatives of those affected by this development are welcome to apply as long as they are eligible,” Catapang said.
“I am encouraging those who will be attrited to have their relatives applied for we still need to fill up 750 vacant positions to meet the 7,430 authorized plantilla positions,” he said.
With the implementation of Republic Act (RA) 10575, also known as the BuCor Act of 2013, BuCor employees were given five years to comply with the eligibility and educational requirements set by the law.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the deadline had been extended by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla for another one year until March 16, 2024.
