At the inaugural Asia’s Influential Leaders Awards 2024, held on February 16, 2024, at the Grand Ballroom, Okada Manila, various leaders from different fields were honored for their advocacies, influence, and contributions to their communities, sparking hope in other Filipino communities. The event allowed the awardees to come together, extend their advocacies, inspire growth, and collaborate with fellow leaders to form a better nation.

These awardees were all nominated, underwent preliminary background checks, and were carefully chosen by the reputable members of the Awards Council from a broad list of nominees. The council was composed of Chaye Cabal Revilla, Congresswoman Marissa Del Mar Magsino, DILG IV-A Director Hon. Anna Lisa Bonagua, PCCI President Enunina Mangio, Dr. Eduardo Ong, Eric Quizon, and Owen Sanchez.

In the Medical Category, the Awards Council deliberately chose two prominent medical leaders from Iloilo: Dr. Rollin P. Tabuena, a Pulmonary Medicine specialist, and his wife, Dr. Ma. Daisy P. Tabuena, a Neurology Medicine specialist, among other nominees, for their unique approach in advocating for health and well-being.

The Asia’s Influential Leaders Awarding body took the chance to recognize these medical leaders who bring progressive change to their community - doctors who aim to make a significant impact on their community with their blended passion for arts and medical expertise.

Both won in the Medical Category - Dr. Rollin received the Asia’s Influential and Renowned Doctor in Pulmonary Medicine Award, while Dr. Ma. Daisy was awarded with Asia’s Influential and Renowned Doctor in Neurology Medicine Award. Extending her gratitude, Dr. Ma. Daisy dedicated her award to all the women who dare to dream differently, “I would like to thank Dr. Ronnel Ybañez and his esteemed organization for the trust. Each step forward is not just for myself but for every woman who dreams of pursuing their passion irrespective of social norms," she said during her speech.

Dr. Rollin gave thanks as well to the ones who supported their endeavors, “To be recognized among such distinct individuals is not just a personal achievement, but it is also a testament of collective efforts of all those who have supported and believed in the vision I’ve been privileged to pursue. Together, let us try to create a legacy that transcends boundaries and uplifts humanity,” he said.

The Tabuena Doctors, besides being award-winning professionals and medical innovators, have been devoted to promoting a healthy lifestyle through the power of dance, hence the name “the Dancing Doctors of Iloilo.”

One of their significant contributions to the community was their research on innovative treatments for pulmonary diseases. They have introduced the Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification Test Kit (TB Lamp) to the hospitals in Iloilo which serves as a cheaper and easier tool for the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis. While being active in the medical field, they also conducted, led, and supported Zumba sessions in Iloilo since 2019 and the pandemic did not stop them from helping other people maintain healthy lifestyles using the perfect blend of their expertise and passion for dancing.

Their initiative benefited the community people and inspired neighboring communities, evidently making waves in their region and hoping to make an impact on the entire nation as well. The Tabuena Doctors also run a laboratory called Asclepius Drugstore Medical Laboratories and Allied Services Corp., which provides global-quality medical services in Iloilo.

These medical leaders, with unfaltering commitment to their work and selfless deeds that show a different kind of love for their people, are worth recognizing.

Other prominent leaders honored during the awards night were Senator Grace Poe, Department of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology Ivan Uy, actor Alden Richards, former Mayor of Tacloban and mother Cristina Gonzales Romualdez, and TESDA Secretary Suharto Mangudadatu, among others.
