President Marcos has appointed Sharon P. Almanza as the new national treasurer following her tenure as the Officer-in-Charge of the Bureau of the Treasury, the Department of Finance (DOF) announced.
In a statement on Monday, March 11, the DOF said that Almanza is one of the “high-caliber senior officials” in the department who were recently appointed by Malacañang.
The Treasury bureau is an attached-agency of the DOF.
Having previously served as one of the deputy treasurers before assuming the role of Officer-in-Charge in September last year, Almanza succeeded Rosalia De Leon, who now serves as a Monetary Board member of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
Almanza has a distinguished career in the Treasury bureau and the DOF, bringing a wealth of experience to her new position.
Notably, she was seconded to the World Bank Group from 2021 to 2023 as the Alternate Executive Director and Senior Advisor for the Constituency of Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Philippines, Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago.
Throughout her career, Almanza held various key roles at the DOF, including serving as the Division Chief for Debt and Risk Management and Multilateral Assistance within the International Finance Group (IFG).
Educationally, Almanza completed her undergraduate studies in Economics at the University of the Philippines Diliman and pursued masteral units in Business Management at the same institution.
Furthermore, she obtained her master’s degree in Asian Public Policy from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Japan.
