In recent years, a tiny doll known as Sonny Angel has captivated the hearts of Gen Z collectors and enthusiasts around the globe. Originating from Japan, these adorable, angelic figurines are renowned for their minimalist design and the surprise element they bring – each box contains a mystery doll, adding an element of excitement and anticipation to each purchase.

Based on its official website, Sonny Angel is a “little boy who likes wearing all sorts of headgear. He is always by your side to make you smile.” It was created by Toru Soeya, a Japanese toy designer, with a nickname “Sonny” which is where the character gets its name.

The first Sonny Angel was released in March 2005 but has become more popular recently. Each Sonny Angel had angel wings and colorful headgear. Some wear full outfits, but most are without pants bear a striking resemblance to a Kewpie doll.

The fascination of Gen Z with Sonny Angels can be attributed to several factors. The most popular size of Sonny Angel is just under three inches. The dolls are sold individually in themed collections that include animals, vegetables, fruits and flowers.  The angels under the regular series are priced at P489, while the limited edition series starts at P549. Hippers also cost P549. 

Sonny Angels are available in a variety of retail outlets. Specialty toy stores Fully Booked bookstore and boutique gift shops often stock these charming collectibles. Online marketplaces like Fully Booked Online, and Amazon offer a broader range, often including rare and limited-edition figures. In addition, the official Sonny Angel website frequently updates their collection, providing direct access to the latest releases.
