DepEd logs 1.7 million early registrants for SY 2024-2025 so far

There are over 1.7 million learners who have pre-registered in public schools for the incoming School Year (SY) 2024-2025, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).

As of Tuesday, Feb. 6, data on Early Registration obtained by the Manila Bulletin from DepEd showed that 1,701,793 learners registered early for the incoming school year.

Early Registration, as per DepEd, refers to the “pre-registration of incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7 and 11 learners which takes place prior to the opening of classes.”

The latest data showed that there are 394,711 early registrants for Kindergarten; 673,487 for Grade 1; 336,744 for Grade 7 and 296,851 for Grade 11.

Citing DepEd Order No. 03, s. 2018, DepEd said the Early Registration for incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners in public schools started on Jan. 27 to Feb. 23 for the SY 2024-2025.

All public schools that offer basic education nationwide are required to conduct Early Registration for the incoming school year.

Private schools, on the other hand, are also encouraged to conduct their respective early registration activities within the same period, DepEd said.

While schools were allowed to continue to implement other options or means of collecting early registration forms, DepEd said that “preferably, the conduct of the early registration shall be done through face to face transactions with the schools.”

Likewise, DepEd reminded school authorities, both in public and private schools, to “strictly enforce and implement” the kindergarten cut-off age.

Aside from incoming Kinder, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners, DepEd said that the Early Registration also aims to “locate, identify, and register” out-of-school children (OSC) and youth (OSY) in the community who may be characterized as living with disability/ies; living in an off-grid community; living in a barangay without a school; living in a geographically isolated area; displaced due to natural disaster; living in an armed conflict area; living in an area with a high level of criminality/drug abuse; having a chronic illness; having nutritional problem/s; victim of child abuse, economic exploitation; stateless/undocumented; in conflict with the law; living on the streets; and no longer in school but interested in going back to school.

Meanwhile, DepEd is currently finalizing the School Calendar for the incoming school year.
