Country music superstar Toby Keith passes away at 62
American singer-songwriter Toby Keith has died following a bout with stomach cancer.
His family confirmed his passing via social media, relating that the country music hall-of-famer, “passed peacefully surrounded by his family,” and that “he fought his fight with grace and courage.”
He was 62.
Toby is among more successful country music singers, forging a career that started in the early 90’s lasting all through the early aughts and beyond.
His first album included the hit “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” that eventually became his signature hit.
Toby is also known for his hits “As Good As I Once Was,” “How Do You Like Me Now?” “Made In America” “I Love This Bar” “American Soldier” and “Beer For My Horses,” to name some.

He injected his songs with a healthy dose of americana imagery as well as patriotism, in particular on “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)” from his 2002 album “Unleashed” that also became one of his biggest songs.
Nicknamed ‘Big Dog Daddy,’ toby prioritized his craft as a songsmith and was eventually inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame back in 2015 and into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2021.
“I wanted to be better at it, and I wanted to write the best songs I could write,” he said in an interview with Billboard. “God forbid, if something ever happened to you and you couldn’t sing no more or perform, you could still write songs.”

A Best-of album titled “100% Songwriter”, featuring fourteen of his biggest hits as a songwriter was released just last November 2023.
The singer performed his last series of shows in December of last year.
Toby was born July 8, 1961 in Clinton, Oklahoma.
