Food, water, and other much-needed relief assistance were transported by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to Davao (Region 11) to address the immediate needs of the victims of flooding and landslides.
A total of 812,638 individuals or 214,132 families were affected by the combined effects of the trough of a low pressure area (LPA) and northeast monsoon (amihan) in Davao region as well as Northern Mindanao (Region 10), Soccsksargen (Region 12), Caraga (Region 13), and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), based on the latest situational report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday, Feb. 5.
The Philippine Navy's (PN) Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) deployed BRP TAGBANUA (LC296) to deliver 19,170 food packs to flood-stricken communities in Davao Oriental on Feb. 4.

"[The] said food packs are intended to be distributed to flood-affected families in Governor Generoso and Mati City," said NFEM commander, Commodore Carlos Sabarre.
He said the NFEM utilized its vessels to reach far-flung communities in Mati City, Caraga, and Lupon in Davao Oriental since relief operations were delayed due to damaged bridges and roads blocked by debris of landslides.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Response Team of Charlie Company of 27th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army (PA) distributed food packs and potable water to affected residents in Carmen, Davao del Norte on Feb. 3.

The PCG also deployed BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) to ferry 22,000 relief packs for families affected by recent flooding in the Davao region.
"The said Coast Guard vessel departed Davao City, Davao del Sur, and arrived [in] Mati City, Davao Oriental on 03 February 2024," PCG spokesperson Rear Adm. Armando Balilo said.
