Salcedo Auctions is responding to the changing and growing collectors’ market. The auction house’s chairman and chief specialist, Richie Lerma, who has already left his mark in Philippine art as a two-time winner, as editor and publisher, of the National Book Award for Art, as well as being the founder of the prestigious Ateneo Art Awards, is developing a groundbreaking program with a new line up for Salcedo Private View revealing his critical approach to curating exhibitions. The same is true for its auctions.

The catalogue of The Well-Appointed Life’s March edition, the auction house’s first marquee event for 2024, is a signifier of a more global perspective as seen in the lots on offer by several major Japanese artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Yoshitomo Nara and Tsuguharu Fujita, and two lots by one of  China’s most esteemed painters Xia Jing Shan displayed side by side with the works of Philippine old masters such as Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo and Felix Martinez,  National Artists Fernando Amorsolo, Victorio Edades, HR Ocampo, Vicente Manansala, Arturo Luz, Cesar Legaspi, and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, and contemporary stalwarts Rodel Tapaya, Jigger Cruz, and Ronald Ventura.

The catalogue also reveals a strong line-up across all sections spanning pre-colonial to contemporary items with artifacts, religious objects, antique furniture and art mixed with highly collectible spirits as well as fine jewelry and watches. All of which are expertly curated so that the collectors of today can make well-considered choices.
