Records digitization of 53,000 Bucor's PDLs now 85% complete
The digitization of the records of the more than 53,000 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in the facilities of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) nationwide is now 85 percent complete.
The digitization of the records or carpeta of PDLs, instead of the manual viewing, would make it easier for BuCor and concerned agencies to determine who among them are qualified for release.
“Inaayos natin lahat ng records (We are organizing all the records),” assured BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. during the culminating activity for the release of PDLs at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City held on Thursday, Feb. 29.
During the culminating activity, a total of 73 inmates from its prison facilities nationwide.
Released from the NBP were 46 PDLs; three, Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, three, San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Zamboanga City; 12, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan; and nine, Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Davao del Norte.
With the new releases, a total of 706 PDLs had been freed this month of February, BuCor said.
A total of 12,053 PDLs had been released since the start of the administration of President Marcos, it also said.
“Hopefully itong end of March or April tapos na rin itong carpeta (Hopefully at the end of March or April the digitization will be finished),” Catapang said.
Once digitized, he explained: "Makikita doon sa prison records na pwede na lumaya, sentenced served na (we can see those who can be released and those who already served their sentences).”
