No need to visit BIR offices for TIN verification for new employees

Newly hired employees are not required to visit Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) offices to verify their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).

In a memorandum circular, the BIR told employers that they can verify the TIN of their employees through the Online Registration and Update System (ORUS) at https://orus.bir.gov.ph/search/tinverification or the BIR Chatbot Review.

It assured that the verification result being displayed by ORUS or Revie is considered sufficient for verification purposes.

The BIR’s Revenue District Offices (RDOs) will not accommodate employees who wish to get their TIN verification slip, except for the following reasons:

- The online TIN Verification facility is not available or there is a prompt message that the user needs to visit the RDO
- There is a need for BIR personnel to further verify the correctness of taxpayer registration information
- The taxpayer has an existing TIN or record; or
- Possession of multiple or identical TINs.

On the other hand, the BIR has also implemented the Digital Taxpayer Identification Number (DTIN).

This is to avoid long queues in their offices and also to prevent getting invalid or fake TINs.

The BIR reminded that the DTIN ID is free and not for sale.

To avail of the DTIN, the BIR said taxpayers need to update their email address at the Revenue District Office where they are registered.

Taxpayers will be also required to accomplish and submit Form S1905 – Registration Update Sheet by sending an email to their concerned RDOs or through BIR’s eServices-Taxpayer Registration Related Application Portal.

The bureau requires taxpayers to upload a photo for the digital TIN ID; it should be clear, appropriate, and recent images that resemble the individual accurately.

“Photos that do not meet the specified requirements and specifications shall not be considered as valid for transactions and shall not be accepted as valid digital TIN ID by the relying parties,” the BIR said
