Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) busted a gun-running syndicate operating in the province of Cebu in two separate operations in Cebu City.
CUDG director Maj. Gen Nicolas Torre III said the operation resulted in the arrest of three members of the Ocariza Criminal Group, which he said is involved in gun-for-hire and gunrunning activities in Cebu City and neighboring cities and municipalities within Cebu province.
He identified those arrested as certain Jimboy, Rowel and Andrio.
Torre said Jimboy was collared on April 25 in Barangay Cogon Pardo through an arrest warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
He is listed as Number 8 Regional Most Wanted Person in Central Visayas.
On the other hand, the two other members of the group were collared during a buy-bust operation the following day in Barangay Mabolo.
“They were caught while selling loose firearms, despite the ongoing election gun ban,” said Torre.
“With the arrest of these three members of the criminal group and confiscation of the instrument of shooting, and gun-for-hire activities, we significantly paralyzed the crime organization and prevented their use and utilization for the coming election,” he added.
