A scion of the Zamora clan in the House of Representatives isn't afraid to call out more seasoned lawmakers in the Senate on the supposed non-performance of their jobs.

In a press conference Monday, Feb. 26, Taguig 2nd district Rep. Amparo Maria Zamora talked about her frustration over the Senate's lack of action on her local bills.

"I filed a couple of local bills in 2022 when I entered Congress. And up to now--and you know they were passed on third reading in Congress in 2022 also and we're now in 2024 and nothing is happening," said Zamora, a member of the so-called "Young Guns" in the House.

"A lot of my barangays are suffering because wala pa rin silang national tax allotment dahil natetengga sila sa Senado (they still don't have their national tax allotment because it's idle in the Senate)," she said.

Zamora shared this in reaction to some senators' claim that House members have been ignoring the Bicameral Conference Committee meeting for the proposed Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act.

The House has also been blamed by senators for the slow pace of the Commission on Appointments (CA), which is also bicameral in nature.

"So I think maghinay muna sa mga masyadong matatapang na statements yung ating mga kaibigan sa Senado kasi tignan din sana nila yung mga nakatengga sa kanila lalo na yung sa akin," added the Taguig solon.

(So I think our friends in the Senate should go easy on these antagonistic statements and take a look at the bills that are gathering dust there, especially mine.)

Zamora--an assistant majority leader in the current 19th Congress--is the daughter of former executive secretary Ronaldo Zamora.

The elder Zamora is a former two-term San Juan lone district congressman. He held the positions of majority leader and minority leader during his House tenure.

The House and the Senate comprise the country's bicameral Congress.
