The Office of the Secretary of Justice Prosecution Staff (OSJPS) of the Department of Justice (DOJ) had posted an 89.30 percent rate of case disposition in 2023 compared to 85.13 percent in 2022 and 53.44 percent in 2021.
Prosecutor General Benedicto A. Malcontento said "the OSJPS was able to obtain a ‘Very Satisfactory’ adjectival rating for 2022 and has maintained such rating for 2023.”
Malcontento said that there has been “a significant reduction in ageing cases, and an increased rate of convictions vis-à-vis acquittals.”
Also, he said the OSJPS has "a 100 percent resolution rate of Petitions for Review in 2023.”
The disposition of cases refers to the number of resolved complaints filed before the DOJ that underwent preliminary investigation which determines if the case should be filed in court.
The accomplishments of OSJPS for 2023 were disclosed by Benedicto during a recent planning assessment and general assembly.
During the assembly, Malcontento thanked all personnel of OSJPS for their collective efforts and “encouraged them to push it further so that the OSJPS can achieve an ‘Outstanding’ rating for 2024.”
