4 suspects in torching of modern jeepney in Quezon nabbed


CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Four persons were arrested for allegedly torching a modern jeepney in Catanauan, Quezon on Wednesday, January 31.

POLICE arrested four suspects in the torching of a modern jeepney in Quezon on Friday, February 2.

Police nabbed the suspects – a sales manager, two civil engineers, and a film director – on Friday, February 2,  in Mulanay, Quezon following a massive manhunt after the incident.

The suspects were identified as Ernesto, 50, sales manager, of Bacoor City, Cavite; Noel, 54, civil engineer, of Binangonan, Rizal; Dominic, 28, civil engineer, of Cabiao, Nueva Ecija, and Jade, 46, film director, from Pasig City.

Arson charges have been filed against the suspects.

Follow-up investigation revealed the motives of the crime and identities of the suspects.

The driver of the modern jeepney had an argument with a jeepney driver. 

A dispatcher of the modern jeep was threatened by a man after taking pictures of old jeepneys in Gumaca, Quezon.

Through investigation and backtracking, police traced the suspects to Mi Casa Resort in Barangay Butanyog, Mulanay, Quezon.

The suspects, who arrived and departed the resort in a Mitsubishi Mirage, were positively identified by eyewitnesses, including the driver and passengers of the modern jeep.

Police Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas, director of the  Police Regional Office 4-A, commended the swift and decisive action of the Catanauan police regarding the incident.

He cited thanked the witnesses for helping solve the crime.

“I extend my gratitude to the dedicated officers and investigators who worked tirelessly to track down the suspects, as well as to the witnesses who came forward with valuable information. This collaboration is indicative of the strong bond between law enforcement and the community we serve,” he said. 

Suspects face related charges.

“I encourage residents to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting any suspicious activities. Your cooperation is instrumental in maintaining the safety and security of our communities,” Lucas said.
