'There was no hacking', DepEd-Cabuyao clarifies following alleged cyberattack


The Department of Education’s (DepEd) City Schools Division Office (SDO) of Cabuyao on Wednesday, Feb. 14, assured the public that there had been no data breach following reports of an alleged leak in its system.

The SDO Cabuyao said in a statement that it was notified via email of a possible data leak by the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-PH).

However, after a thorough investigation, the SDO Cabuyao confirmed that "there was no hacking nor glitch occurred in any platform or system used by the SDO Cabuyao.”

“Upon checking, we found out that all data are intact,” it added. 

DepEd also pointed out that its cybersecurity measures have been “effective” in protecting its network and sensitive information.

“Thus, we immediately activated security protocols and its preventive measures,” it said.

It added that regular security assessments and updates help them maintain data integrity and confidentiality.

Moreover, a report circulated online revealing that "allegedly" 750 gigabytes of data have been breached in one of the offices of the DepEd.
