A person deprived of liberty (PDL) who escaped from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan 25 years ago has been rearrested, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
In a statement, BuCor identified the PDL as Padrino G. Nunez who was arrested last Feb. 9 in Sitio Pandaitan, Barangay Sta. Lucia, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro..
“Núñez was serving sentence at the IPPF Central Sub-colony for the crime of murder for which he was sentenced to reclusion perpetua (life imprisonment,” BuCor said.
"He was admitted at the IPPF on Oct. 23, 1997 and escaped from his confinement on April 14, 1999,” it said.
“Tulad ng sinabi ko noon na kapag kayo ay tumakas hahanapin namin kayo kahit saan kayo magtago at ibabalik namin kayo sa corrections facility at ito ang patunay (This shows that what I said before that once you escape we will find you wherever you are and bring you back in prison),” declared BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr.
