Belgian 'terrorist,' lady companion barred entry to PH-- BI
A Belgian who is in the International Criminal Police Organization's (Interpol) list of suspected foreign terrorists and his lady companion were barred from entering the Philippines last Feb. 7.
"For security reasons," the Bureau of Immigration (BI) did not release the name of the Belgian "who was excluded pursuant to Section 29 of the Philippine immigration act which forbids the entry of 'any alien who believes in, advises, advocates, or teaches the overthrow by force and violence of constituted law authority.'”
The BI said the Belgian, 31 years old, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from Abu Dhabi with a 27-year-old Belgian woman whose entry was also barred.
It said "the man was excluded after the BI officer who processed him saw that the passenger prompted a hit in his computer’s Interpol derogatory check system.”
“Verification made with the BI’s Interpol unit revealed that the Belgian is subject of a diffusion notice issued by the Interpol for the alleged offense of involvement in terrorism-related crime,” it also said.
The name of the male Belgian was included in the BI's blacklist to effectively bar him from entering the country, it added.
