An arrested Japanese national, who is facing fraud charges in his country, was deported on Monday, Dec. 9, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado identified the fugitive as Sasaki Yohei who left aboard a flight to Tokyo.
Viado said Yohei, who was arrested last Oct. 1 in Quezon City, has been placed in the BI’s blacklist and barred from re-entering the Philippines.
The BI said that “the Japanese man is an alleged member of a Cambodia-based syndicate engaged in kidnapping, illegal detention, extortion, and fraud.”
“According to Japanese authorities, Yohei has an active warrant of arrest issued by the Omiya summary court in Saitama, Japan where he was charged for defrauding an elderly victim in a nursing home where he worked as a staff member,” it said.
“He allegedly enticed the victim to invest more than 3 million yen in a fake contract-related transaction,” it added.
“His deportation shows our strong stance against illegal aliens attempting stay in the Philippines to evade arrest in their home countries,” Viado said.
“Let me reiterate, fugitives and other such foreign criminals have no place in our country,” he declared.
