‘Squid Game’ season 2 smashes records on Netflix; No. 1 in 92 countries, territories 


Netflix released the viewing numbers for the highly anticipated “Squid Game” season 2 showing the Korean series setting records. 

Based on Netflix’s weekly Global Top 10 list from Dec. 23 to 29, its official ratings chart, “Squid Game” season 2, which premiered on Dec. 26, debuted at No. 1 on the non-English TV list with 68 million views or 487.6 million hours viewed. 

According to Netflix, this broke “the record for the most views for a show in its premiere week,” surpassing the record set by “Wednesday” season 1 in 2022 which had 50.1 million views.

"Squid Game" season 2 (Netflix)

“Squid Game” season 2 (오징어 게임 2) also debuted on Netflix’s Most Popular List for non-English Shows in record time at No. 7 with 68 million views.

The Most Popular List is a ranking of shows in their first 91 days on Netflix. 

The No. 1 spot is still held by “Squid Game” season 1 with 265.2 million views. 

In comparison, "Squid Game" season 1 debuted at No. 1 on Netflix's Global Top 10 list from Sept. 13 to 19, 2021 with 63.19 million hours viewed. At the time, Netflix was using total hours viewed to rank shows and movies. 

In addition, “Squid Game” season 2 became the No. 1 show in 92 countries and territories, which was accurately reported by streaming ratings website FlixPatrol. 

FlixPatrol announced that “Squid Game” season 2 became No. 1 in 92 countries and territories on Dec. 27 and rose to 93 the following day.
