BACOLOD CITY – The Police Regional Office-Western Visayas has assured a thorough investigation over a fatal shooting incident involving a policeman in Pulupandan, Negros Occidental on Christmas Day.

Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, PRO-Western Visayas director, ordered an in-depth, impartial, and swift investigation on the incident where a 21-year-old construction worker was killed and his father wounded.
Wanky condoled with the family of the victims.
"We extend our deepest sympathy to the family members of the victims of this unfortunate incident caused by one of our members,” said Wanky who assured that they do not tolerate and condone any wrongdoing by any by their police officers.
Wanky said they consider this an isolated case but warned policemen involved in crimes and illegal activities that they will be appropriately investigated and suffer the consequences of their actions.
He said that PRO-Western Visayas will ensure that appropriate support will be extended to the victims’ family.
The suspect, 36-year-old Police Corporal Armin Alanza, warned the victims who purchased bottles of beer in a sari-sari store in Barangay Canjusa. A commotion erupted that resulted in the death of the victim.
A speedy pre-charge investigation will be conducted against the suspect for his immediate dismissal from the police service, PRO-Western Visayas said.
"While we may be quick to reward those who perform extraordinary deeds in pursuit of their duties and responsibilities, we are also quick to get rid and dismiss those who violate our rules and regulations much more be involved in criminal activities," Wanky said.
Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental police, said that Alanza, who is assigned to the 604th Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB)-Western Visayas, is under hospital arrest and was subjected to a motu propio investigation.
