Cop shoots laborer dead on Christmas Day


BACOLOD CITY – A policeman allegedly shot and killed a 21-year-old construction worker and wounded his father in Purok Maligaya, Barangay Canjusa, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental on Christmas Day.

The fatality was identified as Joman and the wounded was his father, Jomarie, 52.

The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas identified the suspect as Police Corporal Armin Alanza, 36, of Barangay Canjusa and assigned to the 604th Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB)-Western Visayas.

Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental police, said that Alanza cautioned the two victims who purchased beer in a sari-sari store at around 4 a.m. 

An altercation erupted between them where the suspect allegedly shot the victims using his service firearm.

Catalogo said that Joman succumbed to bullet wounds in the chest. Joman’s father sustained bullet wounds and recuperating in a hospital.

Alanza was also hospitalized for injuries from an unidentified blunt object that hit his head and other parts of his body during the commotion. He is under hospital arrest.

The suspect’s service firearm will be subjected to a ballistic examination and a paraffin test will be conducted on him if necessary.
