Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the facilities of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) nationwide have been allowed visits by their families and loved ones from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily this Christmas season.
Also the wife or the common-law wife of a PDL is allowed to stay inside the prison facilities for 24 hours.
The stay-in visit started last Dec. 24 from 8 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Dec. 25. There will also be stay-in visit today, Christmas day, from 8 a.m. to 7 a.m. Dec. 26, and on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
BuCor Director Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said “Christmas is a time for family, and this initiative signifies BuCor’s commitment to nurturing family relationships even within the confines of correctional facilities.”
“This initiative reflects a broader understanding of the importance of family ties in the rehabilitation process of PDLs, underscoring that even those within correctional facilities deserve the opportunity to connect meaningfully with their loved ones,” Catapang also said.
He added that he has issued a memorandum that laid out the schedule of the visits and how this will be implemented.
