More than P44 million worth of alleged fake products bearing the name of a popular fashion brand have been seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Makati City.
In a statement, the NBI said the "fake products" of the fashion brand "Chanel" were confiscated during operations conducted jointly by the bureau's National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) and the agency’s Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD).
It said that five search warrants issued by the court for trademark infringement under Republic Act 8293, the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, were implemented during the operations.
“The implementation of the search warrants resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of various products bearing Chanel trademark with an approximate value of P44,485,000,” it also said.
NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago commended the two NBI divisions “for their relentless actions to stop the proliferation and distribution of counterfeit products.”
“The case stemmed from the request of a law firm for investigation and enforcement action,” the bureau said.
