Two Chinese nationals, who are wanted in their country, have been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Tondo, Manila.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado identified them as Su Yan, 47, and Hui Chi Lam, 55.
“They will be deported for being undesirable aliens and their names will be included in our blacklist, banning them from re-entering the Philippines,” Viado said.
He said the two foreigners were arrested at their condominium unit last Oct. 31 by operatives of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) "based on arrest warrants issued by the public security bureau of Luxi County in Jianxi, China on March 17 this year.”
“Chinese authorities alleged that Su and Hui colluded in selling financial products to investors without the required qualifications and permits from the proper government agencies,” the BI said.
“It is estimated that the suspects amassed profits of more than 59 million yuan, or roughly $8.2 million since they started their racket in 2018,” the BI also said.
It added that “both aliens blatantly violated Philippine immigration laws by overstaying in the country as they did not bother to apply for extension of their stay upon the expiration of their tourist visa.”
The arrested Chinese nationals are now detained at the BI’s detention facility in Taguig City while awaiting deportation.
