Four personnel of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) have been caught in possession of cellular phones despite the prohibition to bring them inside prison facilities.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. had issued a memorandum last Nov. 19 that banned prison officials, employees, and visitors from bringing cellular phones inside prison facilities.
“Dati PDL lang ang binabantayan pati ngayon pati mga personnel (Before we were only watching over persons deprived of liberty but now we also have to keep watch over our own personnel),” Catapang said.
He said the four personnel were caught with mobile fones through the help of BuCor's dogs which are trained to sniff and find cellfones.
He declined to identify the personnel as the case is still undergoing further investigation.
“Ang pinaka-worst d’yan, hindi sila masama sa promotion (The worst that could happen to them is they won’t get promoted,’ said Catapang when asked what possible sanctions they could be facing.
