NBI probes VP Duterte's threat vs Pres Marcos

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has been directed to look into the threat aired by Vice President Sara Duterte against President Marcos.

NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago said on Sunday, Nov. 24, that Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla has already given instructions to the bureau to investigate the threat.

“In response to the call from the Executive Secretary and in coordination with the Presidential Security Command, the Secretary of Justice has directed the NBI to determine the veracity of the videoclip circulating online regarding the threat coming from VP Duterte,” said Santiago.

"The investigation is still ongoing," he said.

But, so far, Santiago said the NBI’s Cybercime Division (NBI-CCD) investigators have “found the videoclip to be authentic.”

“Hindi po ito deepfake or AI-Generated (This is not deepfake or generated by artificial intelligence)," he said.

“The finding was already reported to the Secretary of Justice,” he added.

During a Zoom press conference held on Saturday, Nov. 23, Duterte warned she already hired an assassin to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if ever something happened to her.

Duterte ranted over the alleged political persecution that the Office of the Vice President (OVP) is currently experiencing under the Marcos administration despite having been allies.
