Two foreign fugitives, who are wanted in their respective countries, have been intercepted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Friday, Nov. 22.
The BI identified the two foreigners as Chinese national Yao Binand and South Korean Li Su Bin who were separately intercepted at the NAIA Terminal 3 last week.
“They were accosted by BI personnel as both of them prompted positive hits in the BI’s database of persons who are subjects of Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) red notices,” the bureau said.
It said that Yao, who is now detained in the BI’s detention facility in Taguig City pending deportation proceedings, was offloaded from his flight to Malaysia after the BI Interrpol unit received information that “he is a member of a cybercrime syndicate that operated several gambling websites.”
“The said websites allegedly solicited more than 260,000 Chinese customers who gambled on the results of international sports competitions and whose combined bets amounted to more than 2 billion yuan, or more than $276 million," it also said.
On the other hand, the BI said that Korean Li Su was allowed to board his flight to Seoul, South Korea after informing Korean authorities of the arrival of the fugitive.
“He was later arrested by Korean policemen upon arriving at the Incheon airport,” it added.
Li Su, the BI said "is wanted in Seoul for involvement in an investment scam, and is said to be a member of an investment fraud organization based in Laos that preyed on unsuspecting victims who were enticed to invest their money in crypto currencies and stocks."
