300 Bilibid PDLs transferred to Sablayan Prison in Occidental Mindoro

Three hundred persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City were transferred last Wednesday night, Nov. 20, to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.

The transferred PDLs, all of them serving jail terms for conviction in illegal drugs cases, will be confined at the "Supermax" security prison of SPPF, the BuCor said.

"This transfer is part of BuCor’s intensified anti-illegal drug campaign, aligning with the administration's ‘bloodless drug campaign,’" it also said.

Earlier, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla had instructed the bureau “to consolidate all individuals deprived of liberty involved in drug-related cases into a single Supermax facility.”

The BuCor said "the PDLs were moved using 10 commercial buses under the supervision of 90 staff members, which included BuCor SWAT (special weapons and tactics) teams, medical personnel, and an escort team, complemented by assistance from the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Muntinlupa City, as well as SLEX (South Luzon Expressway) and STAR (Southern Tagalog Arterial Road) Toll Highway Patrol units.”

“Since last year, the Bucor has been transferring PDLs from NBP to various OPPFs (operational prisons and penal farms) in an effort to decongest the NBP and in preparation for the planned closure of NBP in 2028,’ it added.
