A German woman, who is wanted in her country for alleged sex crimes against children, has been arrested in Quezon City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Sunday, Nov. 17.
“Foreign nationals involved in sex crimes against children are considered undesirable aliens and are not welcome in the Philippines,” declared BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado in a statement.
Viado identified the German as Evangeline Schmidt, 48, who was arrested in Quezon City last Nov. 8 by operatives of the BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) which acted on the mission order issued by the commissioner.
He said the arrest was carried out on request of the German government which sought assistance in locating and deporting Schmidt back to her country.
The BI said Schmidt is subject of a red notice issued in 2023 by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) after a warrant for her arrest was issued by a local court in Darmstadt, Germany in 2022.
“She was charged with various offenses including sexual abuse of children, sexual abuse of persons in a dependent position, aggravated sexual abuse of children, and rape,” said the bureau.
“German authorities alleged that the Schmidt couple committed their crime from 2004 and 2009 when the two victims were repeatedly subjected to sexual abuse by her spouse, at the instigation of Schmidt,” it added.
Schmidt is currently detained at the BI detention facility in Taguig City while awaiting deportation.
