The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) started on Friday, Nov. 15, transfering from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who are serving jail terms for convictions of violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Initially, a total of 100 PDLs were transferred to the Pasugui-Sub Colony of the SPPF, BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said.
Catapang said that in a few days another 200 PDLs are scheduled for transfer and before the month of November ends 300 more PDLs will be relocated.
He said he had ordered the relocation of PDLs from NBP as early as July 2023.
Meanwhile, Catapang disclosed that an inter-agency task force called “Sanib-Pwersa” has been formed to combat the continued drug trading committed by PDLs inside the prison and penal farms.
“It will be a robust, focused and hardened anti-drug activity against all PDLs who still commit drug-related activities inside and outside BuCor,” he declared.
He said he has designated BuCor Deputy Director General for Operations Gil Torralba to head the inter-agency task force which is led by BuCor.
“Together with Torralba will be the representatives from the PNP (Philippine National Police), the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the NICA (National Intelligence Coordinating Agency),” he also said.
