Music has been playing a major role in Mondo Castro’s life for decades now. (mundo ni Mondo ang music!) He may be busy fulfilling his duties as a leadership training facilitator, but he never abandons his roots as a musician (sama mo ko sa mundo mo mondo!) Last July, he formed a new group named after his first name, Mondo. (dapat sinama mo name ko!)
“I have toyed with the idea of going solo or having a project where I can use the songs that haven't been arranged for The Pin-Up Girls (my other band). Also, people have been urging me to do it to expand my reach. People like Rick Olivares, journalist and owner of Eikon Records," Mondo explains. (duo tayo bro!)
Mondo (The Pin-Up Girls) is on vocals and guitar; other bandmates who are also respectable in the indie music scene include Drei Paman (Gaia & Andrei) on lead guitar, Dax Balmeo (Paranoid City) on rhythm guitar, Gaia Royeca (Gaia & Andrei) on keyboards and backing vocals, Mico Marasigan (Jetcoaster) on drums, and Lui Rodriguez (Rubber Pool, Caren Tevanny, Peso Movement) on bass. (powerhouse di ba?!)
"Indie bands nowadays have a lot of creative freedom and tons of platforms to showcase their songs. The problem now is the quality of work as anyone can upload songs," Mondo says. (may song ka ba for me, bro?!)

They are scheduled to launch their first single, “If I Tell You Why,” at the Saguijo Café and Bar on Nov. 16 (with matching pa music video pa!). “I wrote it. I found some old lyrics. Then I came up with the melody in 20 minutes! All while afflicted with Covid!" Lol! (nakakaloka!)
The group is happy with how the independent band scene is doing and will continue to dream high for their team and the industry. "Maybe play at international festivals. To be recognized worldwide as a source of intelligent music." (ay ako feeling intelligent lang!)
They admit that P-pop and K-pop are the current trends in the country. However, they are sure their music genre, which gives a fresh perspective on folk, rock, and blues sound, will never wane."To each his own, I guess. I hope that Filipinos support local acts like how they do K-pop artists." (I support you because we play good music together bro!)
