THE provincial government of La Union is not taking any chances as tropical cyclone 'Nika' (center) barrels its way to Luzon.

The Emergency Operations Center has prepared rescue equipment and assets for deployment.

There are 22 heavy equipment available for clearing operations, it added.

The provincial government suspended classes on all levels on Monday, Nov. 11, to ensure the safety of students.

“We strongly advise students to stay at home and avoid any unnecessary activities outside. Let’s prioritize safety and remain alert as we monitor updates on severe tropical storm Nika,” Gov. Rafy Ortega said.

Ortega urged the people to call hotline 911 or the La Union Rescue mobile number 0998-961-1519 for emergencies.

Meanwhile, the local government units of San Gabriel and San Juan have closed tourist spots and beaches as Nika approaches.
