Mary Ann Maslog to undergo NBI lie detector test

Mary Ann  Maslog, the 1999 textbook scam accused who "faked her own death" to evade arrest, will undergo a lie detector test that will be conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The lie detectot test will be conducted following revelations concerning Maslog's alleged links with dismissed mayor Alice L. Guo of Bamban, Tarlac.

“Ako mismo (I myself) with the officer on case, we will conduct a lie detector test,” said NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago during a radio interview on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

 “Titignan natin kung ano ang pinagsasabi n’ya na information (We will scrutinize the information she has been providing),” Santiago said. 

On Tuesday, Oct. 8, Maslog was brought before the Senate where it was revealed that the Philippine National Police-Intelligence Group (PNP-IG) tapped her in securing the surrender of Guo when the former mayor was at large.

After the former mayor’s return to the Philippines following her capture in Indonesia, Guo was also visited by Maslog while in detention at the Custodial Center of the PNP in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Santiago recounted that he has already talked to Maslog and agreed with the observations of the senators that she is "a con artist and a liar."

Maslog remains under the custody of the NBI which arrested her last Sept. 25 in Quezon City.

Her arrest stemmed from a complaint which alleged that a certain Dr. Jesica Francisco duped a complainant into handing P5 million as investment in a project in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

During its investigation, the NBI discovered that the fingerprint of her right index finger on the biometric printout of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) was identical to the fingerprint in the NBI clearance issued to Mary Ann Maslog or Mary Ann Evanz Basa Tupa Smith.

Because of this, the NBI found that Maslog has two outstanding arrest warrants issued by the Regional Trial Courts (RTC) of Makati and Paranaque cities.

After serving the arrest warrants and apprehending her, the NBI also charged Maslog before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office for falsification of public document and violation of the Anti-Alias Law.

Santiago said that Maslog is also an accused in the 1999 tax scam and two of her co-accused officers of the Department of Education (DepEd) already got convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

However, Santiago said, during the trial of the case, Maslog’s counsel reported that she already passed away.
