58 new immigration officers set for deployment to seaports, airports

Fifty-eight newly hired immigration officers are set for deployment in various seaports and airports after their graduation on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

‘Yan po ‘yung mga qualified immigration officers na mag-man ho sa mga borders natin, airports and seaports (These are qualified immigration officers who will man our borders at the airports and seaports),” Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado told journalists on Monday, Oct. 28.

He said the 58 new officers have undergone "the necessary training."

He said that the BI has 1,818 immigration officers deployed in the seaports and airports among its over 3,000 personnel.

Despite this number, he admitted that the BI remains undermanned.

“Sinusubukan po namin i-address po (We are trying to address this),” he assured.
