Cavite under state of calamity; evacuees reach 12,325

CAVITE – The province is now under a state of calamity due to the impact of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, Gov. Athena Tolentino announced evening on Thursday, October 24.

A total of 3,467 families or 12,325 individuals have been evacuated in the province due to the impact of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

According to Situation Report No. 10, released by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 220 storm-related incidents have been monitored in Cavite.

Power outages have been reported in 18 cities and towns, while six local government units (LGUs) are experiencing water interruption.

The partial damage to agriculture is currently at P1.8 million, with 43 farmers affected.

A total of 53 houses and infrastructure, meanwhile, have been damaged.

Tolentino visited evacuees in Ternate, where a section of the Maragondon River reached its critical level on October 24.

Provincial Information Officer Denesse S. Cajulis told the Manila Bulletin that the provincial government is bolstering LGUs' rescue and relief efforts, working closely with national agencies and local chief executives to meet the urgent needs of the affected communities.

Out of 23 cities and towns in the province, 11 have been affected by floods, with two dams in Bacoor City and nine river systems reported overflowing after torrential rains.

Among the severely flooded areas is Noveleta, where the Ylang-Ylang River has reached its spilling level.

The provincial government is augmenting the LGUs' rescue and relief efforts, coordinating with national agencies and local chief executives to address the immediate needs of affected communities.
