Class, work suspension on Oct. 24? Depends on the weather but very possible, Marcos says

Classes and work in government offices could possibly be suspended again on Thursday, Oct. 24, due to the onslaught of Tropical Storm Kristine, President Marcos said.

Although it is unfortunate that classes and work may again be suspended, Marcos said, it is necessary because they do not want to endanger the lives of the people.

"It all depends on the weather. Yes, very possible," Marcos said in a media interview on Wednesday, Oct. 23, when asked if the government is also going to suspend classes and work along the path of "Kristine" on Thursday.

The President further said that although the schools and offices are already losing days of classes and work due to the suspensions, the government is compelled to declare suspensions during calamities.

"Unfortunately very possible, because we're losing so many days —days of work, days of classes— but what can you do, nandiyan ang bagyo, hindi naman natin ilalagay ang mga tao sa peligro (the typhoon is there, and we cannot put the people in danger)," Marcos said.

On Wednesday, classes in all levels and work in government offices in Luzon were suspended in view of the inclement weather brought about by Tropical Storm Kristine affecting the whole country, particularly Luzon.

According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), "Kristine" could make landfall in Isabela or northern Aurora on Wednesday evening, Oct. 23, or Thursday morning, Oct. 24, potentially as a severe tropical storm.

As of Wednesday morning, 26 areas have been placed under tropical cyclone wind Signal No. 2 and 33 areas under Signal No. 1.
