Edward Ramirez, chief of operations of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said that 73 families or 252 persons in seven areas in Barangay Sum-ag and six families or 25 individuals in four areas in Barangay Pahanocoy were affected by flooding.

Ramirez said that rescue operations were conducted after a downpour occurred around 1 a.m.

Flooding also caused some roads to be impassable but were cleared after the floodwater subsided, he added.

Ramirez said that evacuees were advised to stay at evacuation centers for their safety since they are living near creeks or riverbanks in the two flood-prone barangays.

Evacuees are temporarily sheltered at Sum-ag Elementary School and Medalla Integrated School.

Ramirez said one person was injured when heavy rain uprooted a mango tree that fell on a house in Purok Lirio, Barangay Taculing. The area has been cleared at noon time.

The CDRRMO advised the public to be on alert.

Ramirez said that they are blue alert and continuously monitoring the situation.

In Negros Occidental, the cities of Bago, Sagay, and Cadiz were flooded on Monday morning but water gradually subsided.

In a radio interview, Irene Bel Ploteña, head of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD), said that some LGUs experienced light to moderate rains. There is no number yet on evacuees.
