Ex-Pres Duterte will not be spared in reinvestigation of unsolved extrajudicial killings -- DOJ

Former President Rodrigo R. Duterte will not be spared in the reinvestigation of unsolved killings that took place under his administration, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said on Thursday, Oct. 17.

“We're not letting go of the cold cases,” Remulla told journalists covering the DOJ.

“If there are people who are willing to testify and give us evidence para mabuhay natin yung mga kaso kasi walang katahimikan hanggang walang hustisya (so we can revive these cases because there is no peace when there is no justice),” Remulla pointed out.

"Basta basta’t wala tayong sinasanto. Ang mahalaga kung meron nagkasala sa lipunan ay pagbayaran (No one will be exempted. What is important is that a person who committed a crime must pay for it),” he stressed.

Remulla issued the statement after Malacanang expressed support in the reinvestigation of cold cases of killings related to the drug war during the Duterte administration.

"The reopening of the investigations of the high killings related to the war on drugs should indicate that the Marcos administration places the highest importance on the fair dispensation of justice and on the universal observance of the rule of law in the country," said Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin.
