BI records 30,000 to 31,000 daily passenger departures after New Year celebration
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has recorded an average of 30,000 to 31,000 daily passenger departures in all international aiports in the country after the New Year celebration.
In a statement, BI said the figures are higher than the 21,000 to 25,000 daily departures processed during the first week of December.
In 2023, BI said it processed a total of 3,224,308 departing passengers with 1,201,484 of them processed last December.
It said that South Koreans were the highest number of outbound travelers in 2023 with more than 1.55 million departures.
There were 1.19 million Americans who departed the country in 2023 followed by Chinese nationals with 406,000 outbound travellers.
More than seven million Filipinos, most of them overseas workers and tourists, left the country in 2023, it also said.
“Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the BI recorded more than eight million departing Filipinos,” it added.
