Immigration officer commended for turning over bag with P90,000 in cash
An immigration officer found a bag containing P90,000 in cash on top of her counter last Jan. 4 while conducting formalities for passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Olivia Ivory Ojeda's supervisor Ferdinand Tendenilla instructed her to locate the owner of the bag from among the passengers at the airport's baggage conveyor on belief that the bag must have been left behind by a passenger the immigration officer had processed.
When Ojeda failed to locate the owner, she turned over the bag to the Bureau of Immigration's (BI) lost and found unit at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
For her honesty as a public servant, Ojeda received a commendation from BI.
“Employees like them serve as a source of inspiration to our rank and file as they enhance the reputation and prestige of our bureau as a frontline government agency,” declared BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco in a statement on Sunday, Jan. 7.
