The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said its main offices in Intramuros, Manila will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 9, but assured that its other offices in the National Capital Region (NCR) will remain open.
The announcement was issued by BI after President Marcos declared Jan. 9 as special non-working holiday in Manila for the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
“In compliance with the directive from Malacanang, the BI Main Office in Intramuros, Manila will be closed on Tuesday, 09 January 2024. Applicants may proceed to other BI offices in the Metro Manila for their immigration needs,” it said.
The Feast of the Black Nazarene is among the biggest religious events held in Manila and celebrated in many parts of the country every year.
The feast features "Traslacion" or traditional procession of the image of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo Church.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) had said that around 2.5 million devotees are expected to join the yearly procession.
