PAO eyes hiring 60 more lawyers

The Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) will get 60 more lawyers once its main offices are transferred to its new building still under construction on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

PAO Chief Persida V. Rueda Acosta said the new lawyers will be assigned to PAO's Special and Appealed Cases Service (SACS) which now has 84 lawyers and 37 support staff.

SACS Officer-in-Charge Public Attorney IV Ronald R. Macorol said his office "is handling 16,232 active cases that are pending before the Office of the President, Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.”

“We also render legal documentation, jail visitations, and we appear before the Court of Appeals on habeas corpus cases and annulment of judgments,” Macorol said.

Meanwhile, Acosta expressed gratitude to the House Speaker Ferdinand G. Martin Romualdez and Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri for their support to PAO.

“May pag-asa po na madagdagan kami sa buong kapuluan ng 200 mahigit kumulang na public attorneys (There is a chance that around 200 more PAO lawyers will be added nationwide),” she said.
