Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David expressed hope that Quiapo Church would one day become an international shrine and be acknowledged by the Catholic community worldwide.

David stated there is a chance this national shrine will be recognized as an international shrine in the near future because of the large number of Black Nazarene devotees in the world.

“I would not be surprised if in a few years, this national shrine would also be declared as an international shrine,” David said in a CBCP statement on Jan. 29.

He urged the faithful to join in prayer and support this aspiration.

"Let us pray for it," he said.

The Quiapo Church was officially declared a national shrine on Jan. 29.

At least 70 bishops from across the country, including papal nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown, attended the Mass presided over by Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula.
