A South Korean fugitive wanted in his country for alleged involvement in narcotics trading has been arrested in Pampanga, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
The BI identified the arrested foreigner as Park Yeong, 43, who was found to have been in the country since Sept. 15, 2019 and has been overstaying.
It said the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) arrested Park at his residence in Angeles City last Thursday, Jan. 18, based on the summary deportation order issued by the BI Board of Commissioners.
It said that its Border Control and Intelligence Unit (BI-BCIU) learned that “Park was issued an arrest warrant by the Suwon district court in Korea in 2023.”
“An Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) red notice was later issued against Park who was charged with violations of Korea’s Narcotics Control Act,” it also said.
It added that “Korean authorities alleged that in July 2016 Park posted on the Internet an advertisement inviting the public to buy methamphetamine drugs from him."
After receiving the payment, BI said that Park would instruct the buyers “to pick up the illegal drugs from discreet locations that were photographed and where the illegal drugs were hidden.”
Park is now detained at the BI’s Warden Facility in Taguig City pending his deportation, it said.
