2 men drown in Ilocos region


LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – Two men drowned in the Ilocos region on Sunday, January 21.

Police identified the victims as Mario Ila, 56, and Raymundo Inobaya Sr., 60.

Ila, of Batac City, Ilocos Norte, drowned while swimming on a river in Barangay San Isidro, Dumalneg, Ilocos Norte following a drinking session with friends.

Police Capt. Jackson Sugayan, Dumalneg chief of police, said the victim allegedly ignored the warning of Barangay Health Workers against swimming on the river due to strong current and murky water.

The victim was found and was taken to the Bangui District Hospital in Bangui, Ilocos Norte where he was declared dead on arrival. 

Inobaya, of Imus City, Cavite, drowned in the sea in Barangay Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union.

The victim was swimming with his wife and two others when big waves pulled him to a deep portion of the sea and drowned.

Rescuers recovered the victim who died on the way to the hospital.
