The House of Representatives is eyeing the release of some P35 million worth of financial aid to seven congressional districts affected by the recent flooding and landslides in the Davao region.
The aid was put together by House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Tingog Party-list, in partnership with President Marcos.
“Every moment counts, and we are working tirelessly to ensure that financial aid and essential supplies reach those in need without delay,” Romualdez said in a statement Friday morning, Jan. 19.
Romualdez is still attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2024 Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland as of this posting.
On top of the P35 million, some 17,500 food packs are currently being distributed to the affected Davao folk.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has reported that nearly 45,000 families comprising over 187,000 people in the region have been affected by flooding and landslides.
These incidents were attributed to heavy rains brought about by a shear line last Tuesday.
Romualdez stressed the urgency of their efforts and emphasized the continued unhampered delivery of substantial assistance to those in the Davao region that had been severely affected by the natural disaster.
“We understand the gravity of the situation, and our combined efforts aim to alleviate the immediate challenges faced by our fellow Filipinos,” noted the leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.
Tingog Party-list Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre assured flood
victims that the Marcos administration has been doing everything to respond to their needs.
"Our hearts go out to the people of the Davao region facing the aftermath of this natural disaster,” Rep. Romualdez, the House Committee on Accounts chairperson, said.
"Tingog Party-list is committed to working alongside Speaker Romualdez's office to ensure that our assistance reaches those who need it most," Deputy Majority Leader Acidre for his part, said.
