More than 40,500 fully-grown marijuana plants worth P8.1 million were discovered in Benguet and immediately destroyed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
In a statement issued late Wednesday, Jan. 17, the NBI said the prohibited plants were discovered last Jan. 10 in an 8,100 square-meter plantation in Kibungan town by its agents belonging to the Cordillera Autonomous Region (NBI-CAR) and operatives of PDEA in CAR.
“Although no cultivators/growers of the said plants were apprehended, documentation and destruction onsite of the marijuana plants ensued,” the NBI said.
The operation that led the discovery of the marijuana plantation was tipped to the NBI-CAR by an informer last Jan. 5, it said.
At the time of the operation, the marijuana plants were ready for harvest, it added.
