2 convicted American pedophiles barred entry to PH -- BI

Two convicted American pedophiles were barred from entering the Philippines last Saturday, Jan. 13.

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified them as Carvin Renee White, 57, who arrived at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, and Scott Edwan Edson, who arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

“We are duty-bound to prevent the entry of aliens who are deemed as excludable under our immigration laws,” Tansingco said.

He pointed out that Section 23(a) of the Philippine Immigration Act expressly prohibits the entry of aliens who have been charged or convicted of crimes involving moral turpitude.

“We have been warning these sex offenders that they are not welcome here. If we encounter them, we have no choice but to turn them back,” he stressed. 

The BI said that White arrived from Hong Kong.  He was convicted in 2002 by a court in Alabama “for engaging in sexual misconduct against a 14-year-old girl.”

On the other hand, "Edson was reportedly convicted in 1994 for raping a 13-year-old child,” it said.  

“Both Americans have been included in the BI's blacklist, thus banning them from entering the Philippines,” it added.
